A. Mandatory KYC & Documentation Requirements

  • Aadhaar Card: Identity & address proof. Must be linked to mobile number for authentication.
  • Driving License: Valid LMV license with 2+ years experience. Commercial use requires Transport Endorsement.
  • PAN Card: Needed for TDS and financial compliance.
  • Passport-Size Photos: 2–4 recent color photographs for RTO records, ID badges, etc.
  • Police Verification: Required for drivers in sensitive transport. Renewable every 1–3 years.
  • Medical Fitness Certificate (Form 1A): Required for commercial drivers and all drivers over 50.

B. Optional / Value-Added Documents

Document Description
Experience Certificate From previous employer, aggregator, fleet company, or hospital. Helps validate domain expertise.
Taxi Driver Badge / RTO ID Issued by RTO after background verification and PSV license. Mandatory for transport vehicle drivers.
Trade License (BBMP/local body) Required if operating as an independent driver or owner-operator (e.g., contract with hospitals, fleet). Apply through BBMP/local municipal body.
COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate (required for medical roles) Mandatory for some health-related driver roles (ambulance, lab, patient transport). Proof via Cowin or DigiLocker.

C. Recommended Screening & Skill Checks

Criminal & Civil Background Check Check for prior offenses (via police records or third-party screening firms).
Reference Check Minimum two professional references. Especially important in school, medical, or hotel driver categories.
Driving Skill & Route Test Employers may require practical driving tests, local route knowledge (GPS + offline), and behavior checks.
Soft Skills / Customer Training Optional but preferred for passenger-facing services (Cab/Taxi, Fleet, Medical Transport). Covers etiquette, hygiene, and communication.

D. Driver Types & Legal Requirements (Karnataka-specific)

  • DL Type: LMV + Commercial Badge License (PSV) from RTO.
  • KYC: Full KYC + Police Verification.
  • Other Requirements:
    1. o Familiarity with ride-hailing platforms (Ola, Uber).
    2. o Smartphone use proficiency.
    3. o May require city permit or All India Tourist Permit (AITP) for outstation cabs.

  • DL Type: LMV with transport endorsement (if vehicle is company registered).
  • KYC: Full KYC + Police Verification.
  • Skills Needed:
    1. o Professional grooming.
    2. o Hospitality etiquette.
  • Verification:
    1. o Police verification and references are usually mandatory for high-end hotel roles.

  • License: LMV/Transport License + PSV Badge.
  • Mandatory Training:
    1. o Child safety, road discipline, and first aid.
    2. o Compliant with Karnataka Education Department's School Transport Rules.
  • Screening:
    1. o Strict police verification.
    2. o No criminal record involving children or intoxication.
  • Registration: Must be listed with school and education board authorities.

GENERAL LEGAL REQUIREMENTS FOR MEDICAL SERVICES DRIVERS (Applicable to All Categories)

CATEGORY-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
(a). Ambulance Drivers

Typical Employers: Government (108 services), private hospitals, trauma care units

2 Minimum Age 20 years for a Transport License. As per Adhaar Card

4 Police Verification Required, especially when transporting patients or sensitive materials. Police Station/ Sakala On-line

Must understand patient movement, stretcher handling, CPR, and infection control.

Adherence to Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, particularly for emergency driving rules.

(b). Patient Transport Drivers

Typical Employers: Dialysis centers, rehab clinics, home health agencies

Additional Requirements

  • No medical treatment responsibility, but training in patient handling, wheelchair assistance, etc., is important.
  • Good communication skills and punctuality are expected.
  • RTO license + possible in-house training certificate from the employer.
(c). Mobile Clinic Van Drivers

Typical Employers: Government health missions, NGOs (e.g., National Health Mission)

Additional Requirements

  • May drive large vans; HMV license may be required based on vehicle weight.
  • Trained to handle rural terrain and off-road conditions.
  • Often undergo sensitization training on rural healthcare delivery and community engagement.
  • Must be familiar with basic inventory handling (medicines/equipment).
(d). Medicine & Lab Sample Drivers

Typical Employers: Online pharmacies, diagnostic labs, pathology labs

Additional Requirements

  • Training in hygiene practices, PPE usage (gloves, masks), and safe sample transportation.
  • Must follow sealed package protocols and cold-chain requirements (if applicable).
  • Some companies may require hazardous materials handling awareness.
  • Adherence to Biomedical Waste Management Rules, 2016, for sample spills or waste disposal.
(e). Blood & Organ Transport Drivers

Typical Employers: Blood banks, organ donation networks (e.g., Jeevasarthakathe in Karnataka)

Additional Requirements

  • Special certification in organ/blood transport logistics (may be issued by the health department or NGOs).
  • Trained in time-sensitive driving, traffic navigation, and coordination with police/traffic control.
  • Knowledge of organ preservation protocols and fast-lane emergency permissions.
  • May need special movement permits (issued case-by-case by local authorities or police).
